It is the eve of the 27th and I thought I would post some information I found about "Reiki". While researching several different techinques this summer, I tried to keep an open mind. The following information is my opinion and as I will say many times, find out for yourself what you think.

My views on Reiki Massage
I recently read over a couple of books regarding Reiki Massage. The first book I read (Exploring Reiki, 108 questions and answers; written by Dr. Laxmi Puala Horan) gave me a bit of an insight on the basics of Reiki and the usage of it. I was able to read this book with somewhat of an open mind. The second book I looked at (Secrets of Reiki; By Anne Charlish and Angela Robertshaw) I put down after the first several pages.
I know there are many Reiki therapists out there that believe in this therapy heart and soul. Believing is half the battle and if they can convince their clients that this therapy works, well it probably will on them.
I am a creative thinker but yet I am a very concrete thinker. In the situation of massage, show me the science to your theory. I treat medical massage. Medical massage has the science to back up everything in which it stands for.
In the Book Exploring Reiki, it describes Reiki as “a form of energy medicine“. The Word Reiki simply means hands on healing technique. It was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the late 19th century. Apparently This Dr. chose the term Reiki to describe the “Universal life force energy , which calms our minds and raises our life force. In simple terms, Reiki is laying hands on a person to help heal them. The therapist lays hands on the person in certain positions and the healing process is accelerated. This book describes Reiki as “ the fundamental nature or substratum of the universe.”
This book references to the fact that in quantum physics, as well as hermetic science, energy is recognized as the fundamental nature of existence. In truth, there is no solid matter, therefore, as human beings, our thoughts and emotions are all composed of energy oscillating at various frequencies. I am not against the belief that we have energy in us and around us. The so called “universal life force energy” is beyond my rational thought or belief.
In Reiki, it is believed that emotions are a reaction to our thoughts and judgements about people and life’s situations. It is believed that these situations block the natural frequencies
and they are what cause headaches, tension, stomach aches, or ulcers. It is also believed that rage, anger, or grief held in the body can easily become tumors. So called “Power trips” can lead to the cause of rheumatoid arthritis.
If I read between the lines, I don’t totally disagree with this statement. I do think these negative situations can cause headaches, tension, stomachs or possibly even ulcers. I think with the busyness of our lives, we simply don’t have time to relax.. Our stress can lead to many negative effects. From what I understand rage or anger can not cause tumors. I don’t know how “power trips” could lead to rheumatoid arthritis.
There were several informative pages about different levels of Reiki. To learn Reiki, you need to learn and understand the four levels. I have struggled with the benefit if reiki.
At the end of the book, “Universal life force energy” is also considered to be natural healing or “nature herself.” Naturopathy is described this way “ there is only really one healing power in existence., that is nature herself.” Reiki is directly working with energy so it supposedly “goes far beyond the ordinary inherent restorative power of the body to battle and vanquish disease.”
Please understand, I have nothing against being treated by a naturopathic physician. I would rather be treated with a holistic approach sometimes than what we have come to know as “the norm”. As a massage therapist I myself believe that when the right techniques are used, the body is better able to heal itself. Reiki is not a therapy I have come to believe in or recommend. I will however encourage you to read upon on it yourself and come up with your own conclusion.

I have decided to start this blog as a massage tool. With all the information out there about massage this tool will be used to help state my opinions. I will voice my opinions on other forms of "massage". I also look forward to posting some great information that I learn through my seminars. Please use my website too. www.meteoramassage.com
Please enjoy this "one small voice among millions".
